Volunteer Opportunities

AUXILIARY

Friendship’s Auxiliary was established in 1974. The main activity of the Auxiliary is to provide financial support for the people served by Friendship. This is done through fundraising events such as the Bazaarfest at West Acres in October and our annual rummage sale in August. The profits from these events go towards purchasing Christmas gifts for the people we serve and providing for any special needs they may have.

No matter how much time or talent you have to give, you would be a welcome addition to our Auxiliary.

CHURCH COMPANIONS

Many of the people we serve are members of their church. We are not able to provide a staff person for everyone who wants to be active in their church. Therefore, it is important that people from various congregations volunteer to provide transportation to and compainionship while at church activities. Volunteers are matched with the person and aided by staff in becoming acquainted with the person. If needed, staff will accompany a volunteer and the person until the volunteer feels comfortable with being an Interfaith Volunteer. One volunteer remarked, “Being an Interfaith Volunteer and seeing Ken become a part of our church family has been a very rewarding experience for me and my family.” Another volunteer and her family assisted an individual in preparation for communion in her church. This person now has three volunteer families and all enjoy taking him to church.

INTERNSHIPS

College students aspiring a career in social work, special education, psychology or any other human service area are encouraged to pursue an internship with Friendship, Inc. An internship at Friendship, Inc. is a great learning experience for students. Those who have become involved have enjoyed it.

BECOMING A FRIEND

Would you like to get to know someone we serve by becoming their friend? Here is a list of some of the things a friend might do: go to a movie, a concert or sporting event, an afternoon in the park, assist with baking cookies, or stops by for a visit. All of these things can be very rewarding experiences for the volunteer and add to the quality of life for the person served.
